Design principles
The Centre's upgrade is guided by the following principles.
- Heritage management – The project should meet best heritage practice in accordance with nationally recognised principles and practices such as Museum Australia's Code of Ethics and Australia ICOMOS' Charter for Places of Cultural Significance (the Burra Charter) and statutory requirements.
- Sustainability – The project must be sustainable economically, environmentally and socially so as to ensure the long-term future and relevance of the collection.
- Partnership – The project will only succeed if it is taken forward as a genuine partnership between the key stakeholders.
- Precinct strategy – The project must align with RailCorp's rail heritage precinct strategy to meet the broader objectives of the Sustainable Heritage Asset Management Strategy.
- Strategic linkages – The project must develop strategic linkages, including locally and regionally, to ensure the ongoing sustainability of the venture, socially and economically.
