Go loco for a day
» Steam Locomotive 78 - M36 Class
Our display hall has an extensive collection of heritage trains, from little shunting locomotives to the glamorous express trains, there is plenty to see and do for all ages:
- marvel at the gigantic Garratt, Australia's most powerful steam locomotive
- get locked up in the prison van
- experience the glamour of the Melbourne Express.
The display hall had a major facelift in 2009-10 - improved walkways and new skylights allow the sunshine to pour through. Come and see our impressive collection of rolling stock in a new light.
Australia’s newest roundhouse, opened in November 2009, offers a new viewing platform for visitors. Watch the volunteers and staff in action using the new workshop facilities to maintain and conserve our heritage trains.
For the kids, there are regular days out with Thomas the Tank Engine. Plus there are heritage train journeys for all ages throughout the year.
